MM MAGS SON OF A GUN’S 2016 Premiere Season in Review

It was an amazing first season for MM Mags Son of a Gun. At the beginning of November 2015, MM Mags Son of a Gun was an unbroke 7 year old stallion who was an International Grand  Champion Stallion and 2 year old Stallion in Halter as a 2 year old. By April 2016, he needed to be able to compete in Halter, Showmanship, Hunt Seat, Western Pleasure, and Horsemanship while being ridden one handed.

wpid-img_11011At his first show on April 23rd, MM Mags Son of a Gun impressed the judges by winning Western Pleasure 19 & Over and Halter Stallions under both judges, 3 & 5 in Most Colorful, and 2nd in Showmanship under both judges.

On May 21st & 22nd MM Mags Son of a Gun competed in  Halter, Most Colorful, Western Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, Hunt Seat Equitation, and Hunter Under Saddle. He continued to impress the judges by  taking home 5 First Place ribbons, 1 Second Place, 1 Third, and 1 Fourth on Saturday, and 7 First Place ribbons and 1 Second Place ribbowpid-edited_img9513291.jpgn on Sunday.

MM Mags Son of a Gun then competed in his first nationally recognized POA show, The Southeast Regional, on June 17th – 19th. With just 7 months of under saddle training MM Mags Son of a Gun took home the blue in Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Showmanship. He took second in Halter, Hunter Under Saddle, and Hunter in Hand, and finished a single third in Hunt Seat Equitation. He also, claimed the 19 & Over Equitation Championship award.

The nextwpid-20160619_143446 show was the Eastern Classic on August 19th – 21st. MM Mags Son of a Gun only competed in two of the three days and still accumulated enough points to earn the 19 & Over Equitation Reserve Champion award and was 3rd in the all around standings. He showed strong in Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle earning 1st and 2nd place under 3 judges. On Sunday he won both Horsemanship and Equitation under all 3 judges.

The final show of the 2016 season was September 23rd and 24th in Lebanon, Tennessee and MM Mags Son of a Gun finished the season exceptionally strong with a nearly perfect show. This show we added 19 & Over Hunter Over Fences to his class list. He won all of his classes under both judges both days except for in one showmanship classes where one judge placed him 2nd.wpid-wp-image-1956843960jpg.jpg

MM Mawpid-20170117_103154.jpggs Son of a Gun is an exceptional stallion. He started his show season under saddle with just five months of training and ended his season with 10 months of training, and won more than the majority of his classes. At the Tennessee State POA Award Banquet MM Mags Son of a Gun was awarded the Champion Stallions Award and the Reserve Champion 19 & Over Award. His National Standings are top 10 for All Around 19 & Over and top 5 in Halter Stallions with points accumulated from just two nationally recognized shows.
